San Antonio Chapter 99s
June 2008

We had a great meeting on May 10. Steve Carlson was great and answered many questions - very interesting and enjoyable. We thank Steve for taking his time to visit with us about his IFR experience - he is now living in Wichita, Kansas. We all descended on Scenic Loop Cafe for lunch after the meeting. See the Minutes for details.

Tip from Cheryl Casillas:

If you don't normally do this, I highly recommend it. Something that really helps me is, prior to start-up & taxi I always have out the airport diagram, figure out where I am and how to get to the runway in use after listening to ATIS to ascertain the runway/runways in use. There are many websites to obtain the runway diagrams, print them out and take them with you.

If it is at night and I have just landed, I have no problem with asking for progressive taxi. Hard to taxi and try to figure out a diagram at night and stay on centerline. I try to review the airport diagram in advance, to have some idea of what to expect, but at night it all looks different. I get sent to many different places when WX is bad and sometimes not much time to review things. Just a helpful hint. A good pilot is always learning! Happy flying!

Just a reminder - Chapter Dues are due June 1st. They are $12 and would appreciate another $2 donation to pay for the "Approach" (total $14).

Sherry Walker is currently in Russia, but will be returning early June. Please go ahead and mail your dues checks to her and make your banquet reservations by email or mail her your check and menu selections. She'll get them all when she returns home.

Diane Wieman-Deyeso completed her CFII! Congratulations, Diane!

Rebecca (Becky) Smith has finished her long cross-country - that PPL is getting real close!!!
