Don't know if you recall having a winter, but spring is here! Sure hope these strong winds die down soon, and we have some good weekend flying weather! We had a good meeting in March (see the Minutes), although it was less attended than usual. Patty appointed Nancy Aldrich as the Nominating Committee Chair. Nancy named Laura Richter and Jo Agee-Housler as committee members. This is their slate:
Reni Moczygemba, Chair
Rebecca Smith, Vice Chair
Jo Agee-Housler, Secretary
Sherry Walker will remain in her position as Treasurer.Elections will be held at the May meeting, as the slate must be posted 30 days before the election.
The new officers will be installed at the Installation/Awards Banquet June 6th. Banquet details will be forthcoming.
In our Chapter, the office of Treasurer is not an elected position. The Treasurer is appointed by the Chapter Board, and she may keep this job indefinitely. This has proven to work much better.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, April 8th at 6 PM at Winnie Clements' home, 13518 Dutch Myrtle. We'll enjoy a potluck dinner before the meeting. Bring whatever you want - maybe you have a favorite dish you'd like to share. Directions to Winnie's: From IH 281, turn east on Bitters, turn left on Heimer, turn right on Perennial, then left on Dutch Myrtle. (Look for the windmill in the front yard.) Winnie's phone number is 210-496-7612. It has been suggested that you call Winnie and let her know what you are bringing, so there won't be duplications.
Hangar BBQ fundraiser will be May 2 in Sherry Walker's hangar at Boerne Stage Airport. Sherry will purchase the food, drinks and paper products. The cost will include the meal and drink. The members will again bring cookies and brownies to sell separately. More discussion at the April meeting.
Randolph Flight Safety is sponsoring a civil fly-in at RND on April 25th, 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Breakfast will be available for a nominal charge. Safety briefings will be by the FAA and RND Flight Safety. Major Purser is leading this activity. If you would like to attend, you will need to call 210-652-2224 or email flightsafety@randolph.af.mil. They will send you 2 forms, their DD 2402 and a VFR flight plan form, which you must complete and return.
Cheryl Casillas has been a busy gal! She finished her checkride in the Beech - CONGRATULATIONS - and is working on her CFI recertification online.
Looks like the 2010 Federal budget is calling for the decommissioning of Loran C and ADFs are pretty much gone.
Terrafugia Transition (flying car) has lifted off several times. Delivery is planned for 2011 and $10,000 will hold one for you for a total of $194,000. Neat, neat, neat! Now, I only have to find $184,000.
A documentary, "Rag Wing Derby", is being filmed about the Powder Puff Derby (as Will Rogers dubbed it) in 1929, by Heather Taylor. Plans are to show it at the EAA Air Venture to tie in with the 80th anniversary of the race! If you are going this year, you'll probably get to see it.
Denise Pride and Becky Smith have both been in touch with the Birds of Prey organization - so when they are again in need of volunteers to fly the birds, we will be contacted.
Have you heard about PetAirways for pets only? How 'bout that! They get to stay in the cabin! Whoo, whoo! Prices start at $150.
Sherry Walker and Nancy Aldrich will be flying the Air Race Classic this June in Sherry's Warrior. Also Rebecca Smith is flying the race in her 172 with her navigator, a 99 from Louisiana, Mae Marquet.
Have you ever worked an AOPA online Safety Course? They are fun and you can actually print out a certificate. They take a little while, but are educational - you might pick up something you forgot, or perhaps learn something new.
49 1/2 Bill Ash passed away Sunday, March 22nd. He was the husband of Ann Ash, who passed away several years ago. Ann had been a 99 for many years and a bunch of them with the San Antonio Chapter. They were a delightful couple and hosted numerous Chapter functions. Several San Antonio 99s attended his funeral service (Jack and Barbara Moore, Alice Foeh, Margaret Cosby, Laura Richter and Gloria Blank). The March 26 Express-News carried a very nice article about Bill - lots we didn't know.
See the March Minutes for more important Chapter information.
